Beck/Abercrombie
Coincidence
The Story
Two jazz guitar giants, each with impressive resumes, collaborate on "Coincidence". Joe Beck and John Abercrombie are no strangers to the Jazz guitar duo format. Abercrombie has collaborated with Ralph Towner, John Scofield, Mick Goodrick and John Basile. Beck has recorded with Scofield and Larry Coryell on the release "Tributaries" and has also performed with Attila Zoller and Gabor Szabo. This recording features two master musicians who have strong roots in the tradition but are also modernists at heart. The diverse program of standards, blues and originals display great chance-taking and interplay, and is just what one would expect from the explorative nature of these two guitarists. With "Coincidence", we have two like-minded players who have contributed to the innovations that have taken place in modern jazz guitar. This is one very engaging session you can keep coming back to, because there is so much that transpires within the compositional vehicles. That says a lot about these artists, who are not only great improvisers and supportive players, but whose musicianship for one day created a recording that is at the same time mus
ically innovative, adventurous and listenable.
