Michael Hedges
Platinum & Gold Collection
The Story
MIchael Hedges' "Platinum & Gold Collection" is a compilation that features his best-known songs, along with some rare photos, informative lines notes and digital remastering. As John Dilberto writes in the liner notes, "Michael Hedges rewrote the book on acoustic guitar. From his debut album 'Breakfast In The Field' in 1981 to his untimely passing in 1997, Hedges always had musicians standing slackjawed watching him play. The smart one didn't hang around for autographs, they ran back to the woodshed, trying to assimilate an approach that radicalized the guitar the way that Einstein radicalized physics. His methods allowed the guitarist to play the often extravagant compositions he heard in his head, a veritable symphony of sound that he transposed to the acoustic guitar, except for those times when he overdubbed flute, keyboards, and just about anything else this wunderkind picked up."
