One Night At Budokan
The Story
Kerrang's Malcolm Dome writes in the liner notes, "Opening with a thunderous version of "Armed And Ready", we get the clarion all of "Cry For The Nations" and the inevitable "The Attack Of The Mad Axeman". From hereonin, it's a rolleroaster ride through a classic hard rock performance: "I Want More" (listen to the almost telepathic way in which Schenker and Raymond combine), "Victims Of Illusion", the driving "Into The Arena", the epic "Lost Horizons", before the main set is brought to a climatic conclusion with arguably the ultimate version of UFO's "Doctor Doctor". One Night in Budokan is that rarity among albums: a release that perfectly sums up just why MSG are held in thrall by all those fortunate enough to see them in all their pomp. A giant of a band at the considerable height of their powers."
