Pa'lante shines the spotlight on the flamenco guitar work of Tucson, Arizona's Chris Burton Jacome. Featuring all-original instrumental compositions and several vocal tracks, the music achieves one of Jacome's goals - to fuse flamenco with pop music, creating an absolutely listenable gumbo that will open new ears to the Spanish sound. Jacome, in addition to his shimmering and percussive acoustic guitar sound, incorporates Brazilian percussion, violin, electric guitar, flutes and Turkish vocals into his songs. Highlights include the exceptional, rhythmically charged title track, the exotic and sensual "Eastern Eyes" and the graceful, singing "Summer Party". Highly recommended for fans of flamenco, nuevo flamenco, world music, or well-executed and recorded guitar music in general.
Chris' introduction to the guitar was quick to become his life's passion. His first guitar teacher and mentor, Albert Marques, introduced the young musician to the provocative rhythms of flamenco. Chris' passion for the music led him first to the completion of two Bachelor of Arts degrees from the University of Arizona, in Classical Guitar Performance and Spanish Literature. Chris then set out to immerse himself in this evocative form of music, moving to Sevilla, Spain to pursue his dream of becoming a flamenco guitarist. Chris immersed himself in the world of flamenco through hours of practice, performance and observation and by adding flamenco dance, percussion and palmas classes to his course of study. In 1999, Chris went on an East Coast tour with Carlota Santana's Spanish Dance Company of New York. Later that same year, he released his debut flamenco CD entitled, "Motivacion".
Additionally, the title track from "Motivation" triumphed over 25,000 submissions from around the world to be named as one of the runners up in the 2002 John Lennon Songwriting Contest, in the World Music category.
