Play Time's Over is guitarist Chris Steberl's debut instrumental EP, released on CD-R. The five song album showcases Steberl's songwriting while also allowing for plenty of fretboard pyrotechnics. "Tongue In Groove" unleashes a phaser-heavy rhythm track, then turns up the heat with dozens of furious legato licks. "Method Of Doing" takes a progressive approach, blending in blazing overdriven arpeggios and a fuzzed-out moody solo excursion. Play Time's Over is hopefully Steberl's first of many offerings in the instrumental rock area, as the CD-R serves as a solid base to build his audience.
Chris started playing guitar at the age of eight. He took lessons until the age of fourteen, when he decided to pursue his own musical direction. Chris performed in numerous bands before forming Alcazar in 1988. The band released two albums, "Visions & Spells" and "Gothic Belladonna", which received airplay around central Ohio. A CD "A Glow In The Dark Age", recorded with Robert Sweet (Stryper) and Tammy Winters received promising reviews by Christian metal magazines, but Chris felt recording a solo EP was the only way to truly express himself. Thus was born the music for Play Time's Over, Chris doing all the production, mixing and instrumentation.
Currently Steberl performs with the groups Alcazar and Monkey Puzzle. He continues to keep himself busy musically by performing and teaching at Sweetwater Music in Columbus, Ohio. Steberl is also hard at work building on to his home studio and writing music for his next project.
