Anthemic hard rock is found all over Lou DiBello's most recent CD-R release, appropriately called The Axeman Cometh. This is his second album (his first was completed in 1993), and this one is an all instrumental, 8 song effort. Ripping, shredded solos mark tracks such as "When All Is Lost", "To The Maxx" and the neo-classically influenced "Tribute 2005", in which the diminished licks play a major role. The magnum opus on the release is the three-part (and over twelve minutes) piece entitled "A Dangerous Alliance", with its opening Black Sabbath-like tolling bell, wind and rain effects, crunchy Krokus-inspired riffs, lyrically harmonized passages and spirited, bee-in-a-bottle alternate picked lines. As one of his fan letters stated, you may get a speeding ticket if you listen to The Axeman Cometh in your vehicle of choice - so get off the highway, and plug into DiBello's heavy rock.
Lou's first gig with a rock band was at age 17. He also studied piano and saxophone as a youth, beginning guitar at age 15. In 1989, he graduated with honors from Musicians Institute in Hollywood, CA. From 1989 to 1999, Lou was in several bands, notably Electric Sky and Blanche Talley, and released his first all instrumental effort, "Pile-Up" in 1993. In 2000, he recorded several pieces for pro wrestling events. Lou has appeared in Guitar World's Hometown Heroes column. From 1994 to present, he has been the guitarist for the band ESP, of which Lou is the only founding member to play every ESP show. The band played across downstate Illinois and into Indiana, and at it's busiest played over 100 shows a year for many years. The band released a self-titled EP in 2000, selling hundreds of CDs at shows and garnering a few good regional reviews in the process.
DiBello is also the owner and creator of Guitarlessononline.com, started in 2001. GuitarlessonOnline was one of the first online lesson web sites to feature both streaming video lessons and Flash multi-media lessons.
