V8
No Conventions
The Story
For an example of a formidable Brazilian hard fusion trio, look no further than V8 with their powerful release "No Conventions". In addition to three conventional vocal numbers, including a cover of Stevie Wonder's "Superstition", the music ranges from the metallic shred of "Notre Dame" to the fusion of "Society D." and the title track, to the hard rock ballad sound of "Whales". Quite broad stylistic territory, but the group (featuring guitarist Sydnei Carvelho, bassist/vocalist Jotinha and drummer Mauricio Leite) make it work, keeping the listener on egde, wondering what will come next. "No Conventions" would be a great first album for instrumental fans wanting to check out the Brazilian fusion/metal/hard rock scene.
