Tony Williams Lifetime
The Collection
The Story
"The Collection" features the 1975 to 1976 version of Tony Williams Lifetime, and featured Williams on drums, Allan Holdsworth on guitar, Alan Pasqua on keyboards Tony Newton on bass, and showcases the bands penchant for inserting modern (for the time) funk influences into their already white-hot fusion. The CD puts both Lifetime (version 2) albums, "Believe It" and "Million Dollar Legs", together (remastered), which stand as some of the most genre-shattering albums from that era. Holdsworth is brilliant here, especially on his own compositions "Fred" and "Mr. Spock" (which Williams spices with his own solo), and he is given plenty of opportunity to stretch. His recording with Lifetime permanently raised the standard for rock/fusion guitar playing, and capture the intensity and creativity of this master guitarist.
